Plant with multifunctional properties with benefits for the circulatory system and the nervous system, among others. The mapurito or anamu (Petiveria allicea) is a plant found throughout South America, especially in the Antilles. It is native to the American tropics, although it can be found in all tropical areas and in Africa. It is also called garlic herb, as the plant, and especially the root, has a strong garlic-like odour. The root possesses anesthetic properties and is considered more powerful than the leaves. Numerous biologically active compounds have been discovered in anamu. Among these: flavonoids, triterpenes, steroids and sulfur compounds.
