Chinese balls (in more technical terminology, balls to exercise the pelvic floor or Kegel exercises) are spheres that contain small balls inside. They are available in different weights, designs and materials, although our recommendation is to use high medical grade silicone, or other non-porous and hypoallergenic materials. In addition, there are also Kegel balls, which have different weights and do not contain anything inside. Finally, there are Kegel exercisers that, instead of having a ball inside, have a tiny motor that emits small controlled vibrations.
Chinese balls work as follows: with the movement of daily activity or with targeted exercises, the inner ball bounces gently against the outer ball generating a small vibration that, upon reaching the vaginal wall and pelvic floor, helps to improve the tone of the muscles in this area. On the other hand, Kegel balls are inserted into the vagina and, through targeted exercises, strengthen the muscles in the area, in this case the daily movement does not serve to strengthen the muscles. Finally, with Kegel exercisers, the same effect is achieved thanks to the internal vibration of the device controlled by the device itself or even with an app on the mobile. The Kegel exercises, prescribed by professionals and correctly executed, achieve a more intense "training" of the pelvic floor.
On the other hand, the use of these devices also helps to increase blood circulation in the area and lubrication of the vagina which helps to improve sensitivity in sexual intercourse.
In general terms, the use of the balls or other exercising devices is recommended for people with a weakened pelvic floor due to age, impact sports, pregnancy and childbirth or other reasons. In fact, it is especially indicated to combat urinary incontinence. Exercise balls, on the other hand, are not recommended for people with a strong pelvic floor, as they can cause hypertonification of the muscles. It is important to have a good expert advice in this regard, to choose the device that best suits our needs. If you have an implanted device or a history of gynecological surgery, consult your doctor.
