The active principles of chamomile, such as the essential oil, produce an anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, spasmolytic, carminative, emmenagogue and slightly sedative effect, actions to which the coumarins and flavonoids contribute.
The mucilages are demulcent and, together with the essential oil, have a re-epithelizing effect. The bitter principles are responsible for its aperitif, digestive and choleretic activity.
