Chamomile is a herbaceous plant from the Chamomilla or Matricaria species. Traditionally, it has been widely used and is very well known to prepare digestive herbal teas and as a hair lightener. The part of the plant used is the flower head (the typical chamomile ""flower"" that you can collect on a walk in nature). Its essential oil is rich in substances such as bisabolol and chamazulene (which give the essential oil its unique blue colour). It also contains flavonoids, polysaccharides and coumarins. These substances have a variety of properties: antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, spasmolytic...
In the form of a herbal tea or dietary supplement, chamomile is associated with the relief of mild digestive discomfort. It can also be used for mouthwashes in the case of irritation of the oral mucosa or throat. For young children, chamomile can also help to reduce teething discomfort. In children, the products and doses used should be specific for them, depending on their age and the indications for each product. When in doubt, it is essential to consult a healthcare professional to adapt the dose in each case.
