Pharmaceutical Advice

Vaginal dryness is a benign but annoying issue that affects many people. It can happen at any age and can be caused by different factors: the decrease in oestrogen during menopause, postpartum, taking certain medications or medical treatments, reoccurring urinary tract infections, very high levels of stress, etc

It is due to a decrease in vaginal discharge and there is usually an imbalance in the vaginal microbiota. The symptoms are a feeling of tightness, burning, itching or pain, and they usually increase during sexual intercourse or when urinating.

On the one hand, it is advisable to use cleansers with a pH compatible with that of the vulvar area, to contribute to its balance. Vulvar (external) and vaginal (internal) or vulvovaginal moisturisers, if they are suitable for both areas, help to keep the mucose moisturised and comfortable. Using water-based lubricants can also facilitate sexual intercourse. All of these products are complementary products and have a specific function. It is always advisable to combine the use of these products with proper hygiene habits, a varied diet that includes quality fats (olive oil, nuts, etc.), as well as following your gynaecologist's instructions in each specific situation.

If the symptoms do not improve, consult your gynaecologist.
