Smith&Nephew Durafiber is a CE class IIb medical device, consisting of a sterile dressing made of gel-forming ethylsulfonated cellulose fibers. It is indicated for the care of chronic and acute wounds, including:
- Partial thickness injuries
- Full thickness injuries
- Superficial granulating wounds
This dressing does not contain natural resins or gums that may cause allergies.
The mechanism of action is based on:
- The vertical absorption of exudate
- The gelification of Ethylsulfonated Cellulose (ESC) to retain exudate and bacteria
- The reduction of the risk of maceration
- The maintenance of fluids inside, even under compression
