It is a plant of complex composition. Contains a bitter principle, probably lactupicrin or taraxacin (chemically a sesquiterpene lactone from the guaianolide group), as well as flavonoids (luteoloxide, cosmosioside). It also contains a complicated mixture of other components such as: inulin, pentacyclic triterpene derivatives (taraxerol, taraxasterol...), carotenoids (taraxanthin), an acid resin (taraxerin), 3-4-dioxycinamic acid, citric acid, phenyloxyacetic acidVitamin b2, cytosterol, coumestrol, vitamin c and a, calcium, potassium, iron, phosphorus, magnesium, selenium, manganese, enzymes, folic acid, fatty acids, tannins.
