Body temperature
The human body regulates body temperature towards a target value and fluctuates throughout the day by up to 1°C. Over a lifetime, the average body temperature can decrease by up to 0.5°C. In general, it is also considered that the temperature in the body (core temperature) and the surface temperature on the skin are different. Therefore, measured body temperatures can vary depending on the measurement site (for example, forehead, ear, mouth, rectum, or armpit) and should not be compared with each other. Measure the temperature regularly using the same method in the same place on the body to determine the normal temperature there and use these measurements as a comparison basis for measurements where you suspect fever.
Body temperature in children
The simple and accurate determination of body temperature is especially important in children and babies. An elevated temperature is often a symptom of an illness, from which the course of the illness can be better assessed.
What is fever
A body temperature of 38°C (measured rectally) is considered fever. In the case of fever, the body's heat regulation is altered, and the temperature rises. In this natural body reaction to inflammation or illness, defensive processes are accelerated: endotoxins are released. Thus, fever helps to combat pathogens in the body.
Thermoval baby – Non-contact and silent temperature measurement
Instructions for use:
In forehead measurement, the infrared radiation emitted from the forehead is measured, without even needing to touch it – especially advantageous in sleeping patients. The infrared radiation reaches the sensor, and in a few moments, the result is displayed on the screen.
